Abstract

The author makes na approach on the meaning of being a diabetologist, emphasizing the importance of associating a good practical knowledge to "expertise and reputation" in order to acquire competence as a diabetologist.

The diabetologist plays a fundamental role in the holistic assessment of the diabetic patient, being the internist the best qualified professional to assume that task.
