História natural da hepatite crónica pelo vírus da hepatite B

As lesões hepáticas de hepatite crónica podem ser da responsabilidade do vírus da hepatite B (VHB).
A prevalência da infecção pelo VHB varia larga mente através do mundo, desde áreas altamente endémicas na maior parte dos países em vias de de senvolvimento, até áreas de baixa endemicidade nos países desenvolvidos. A nível mundia calculam-se em mais de 300 milhões as pessoas cronicamente infectadas com o VHB. A hepatite crónica pelo VHB contitui causa importante de morte, quer por cirrose, quer por carcinoma hepatocelular.
O objectivo deste trabalho consistiu na revisão da epidemiologia, história natural e prognóstico da hepatite crónica pelo VHB.
