Abstract

The authors describe a Remitting Seronegative Symmetrical Synovitis with Pitting Edema in a 94-year-old female patient living
in a nursing home. Her advanced age, walking limitations and
behavior changes made difficult to confirm this case and achieving
the diagnosis. This syndrome was described for the first time, by McCarthy DJ1
in 1985 affecting elderly men with a sudden
condition of polyarthritis, pitting edema on the back of the hands
and feet. This polyarthritis is RF-negative without bone erosions.
The symptoms respond to low-dose prednisone. An underlying
malignancy was excluded in this patient
