A clinical case of seronegative AIDS
Keywords:
AIDS, HIV, seronegative, recombinantAbstract
The A.A. describe the case of a young female
patient presenting with the clinical features of
AIDS and persistently negative HIV serology.
p24 antigen testing and detection of viral RNA
by PCR (polymerize chain reaction) confirmed
the diagnosis of infection with HIV-1. Her partner was seropositive for HIV-1 infection, both
being infected with the same virus, a recombinant between subtypes A and D. The disparity
between the couple’s test results suggests the
presence of an immunological deficiency that
prevents the formation of antibodies.
