Therapeutic trial with tuberculostatic drugs

The authors emphasize the necessity, frequently felt in the clinical practice, of a therapeutic trial with tuberculostatic drugs in patients without positive results in the laboratory tests for mycobacteria. Fever of unknown origin and the occurence of a variety of respiratory com plaints are, alone or simultaneously, the more frequent reasons for the institution of this therapy. The authors present several clinicai cases of the pneumology ward and discuss the clinical and laboratorial grounds of the therapeutic decision, stressing the possible contradiction between the first clinical suspicion, and final diagnosis.
