Abstract

Blood eosinophilia is an uncommon manifestation of solid tumors. The authors report a case of a previously healthy 78-year-old white mate, admitted to our department with a two week history of fatigue, weakness, anorexia, weight loss, fever, night sweating and hepatomegaly. The leukocyte count was 111700/mm3 with 58830/mm3 eosinophils. Abdominal ultrasound and computerized tomography scan showed a hepatic mass with8x 7 cm. Guided percutaneous needle biopsy of the tiver showed metastasis of adenocarcinoma of unknown origin. Flexible colonoscopy showed a stenosing lesion of the mid-portion ofthe transverse colon and biopsy revealed a well differentiatedade nocarcinoma of the colon. A review of the literature reports only two cases of colon cancer with more then 30000 eosinophils/mm3.
