Intoxicação por paraquato – artigo de revisão

A intoxicação por paraquato, herbicida muito tóxico ainda disponível em Portugal, é responsável por numerosos casos fatais. O
diagnóstico é emergente e por vezes complexo. O prognóstico é
mau, sobretudo com doses elevadas, pois não existe terapêutica
comprovadamente eficaz. Pretende-se com este artigo fazer uma
descrição da farmacocinética, mecanismo de acção, manifestações clínicas, factores determinantes do prognóstico e terapêutica
disponível, realçando a baixa sensibilidade da paraquatúria no
diagnóstico e a importância da paraquatémia como factor determinante no prognóstico, alertando ainda para a necessidade
de continuar a investigar novas terapêuticas.
