A hepatite autoimune é constituída por um agregado de achados clínicos, laboratoriais e histológicos, significativos apenas no seu con junto. Sendo uma doença autoimune, a sua identidade pode sobrepor-se algumas vezes a outras doenças provocadas pelo sistema imunológico. Trata-se de um campo da Medicina que se encontra em expansão permanente. Os autores apresentam aqui um apanhado conciso das principais características da doença, abordando desde a patogénese à terapêutica com base numa revisão de literatura.
