Chylous ascites – a case report
Keywords:
pleural effusion, chylous ascites, lymphomaAbstract
A 65-year-old woman was admitted because of weight loss
and abdominal swelling. Four years before she was hospitalized
for recurrent right pleural effusion, the aetiology of which was
unidentified. An infectious disease cause was not identified and
pleurodesis was performed with evident clinical improvement. On
present admission a gross chylous ascites was diagnosed. The
abdominal CT-scan detected large retroperitoneal and retrocrural
adenopathies, and a guided biopsy revealed a non-Hodgkin B cell
lymphoma. The ascites and adenopathies disappeared following chemotherapy.
Chylous ascites is an infrequent manifestation of lymphoproliferative disease with few references
