From Mendel’s Peas to the double helix of Watson and Crick
Keywords:
genetics, double helix, DNA, Morgan, Avery, Watson, Crick, Pauling, “phage group”Abstract
The A. writes about his personal vision of 53
years of genetics history (1900-1953), which
finishes with the Watson and Crick’s double helix model.
Starting with the re-discovery of Mendel’s laws
in 1900, he then describes the different contributions of Morgan, Avery, Pauling and Max
Delbrück, leader of the “phage group”, to modern genetics.
The relationships between quantum physics
and the birth of molecular biology are particularly highlighted
