Community acquired pneumonias - The experience of an Internal Medicine Service
Keywords:
community-acquired pneumonia, epidemiology, risk factors, prognosisAbstract
Although common, community acquired pneu monia remains an enigmatic and poorly characte rised disease. Based on a one-year observational study, the authors show the reality found in a tertiary hospital. Risk factors, clinicai and radiologic characteristics, and evolution after admission are identified in an attempt to clarify this disease.
Keeping in mind severa] biases expected in such a study, one can predict the specific weight of the elderly population in an Internai Medicine ward as well as the importance of microbiological exams and empirical therapy. ln particular cases, more specific tests could be of great importance.
