A Importância da Inteligência Emocional para a Prática Médica do Internista no Futuro

No futuro próximo as inovações tecnológicas a par do envelhecimento da população justificarão mudanças adaptativas dos sistemas de saúde e da forma como exercemos medicina, colocando muitos desafios à especialidade de Medicina Interna. Apesar da capacidade sem precedentes para prevenir, diagnosticar e tratar a doença, o foco na pessoa doente no seu contexto circunstancial continuará a ser central nos cuidados prestados. A Inteligência Emocional, que pode ser desenvolvida ao longo da vida, tem sido alvo de investigação aplicada à medicina a longo das últimas décadas, tendo vindo a demonstrar- se o seu impacto em áreas diversas como a relação médico- doente, a satisfação profissional, a satisfação e segurança do doente, a formação médica e desenvolvimento de lideranças na área da saúde. Com esta revisão narrativa pretende-se definir e enquadrar a inteligência emocional como ferramenta importante para a prática clínica futura do internista.
