Forma rara de tumor do ovário: carcinoma de pequenas células

Descreve-se um caso de carcinoma primitivo do ovário de pequenas células numa doente de 42 anos. A doente tinha feito terapêutica indutora de ovulação dez anos antes. Apesar de ter sido submetida a cirurgia adequada e a poliquimioterapia adjuvante, detectou-se metastização nos gânglios para-aórticas, 10 meses após a intervenção. A quimioterapia de 2ª linha e a radioterapia não impediram a progressão tumoral, e a doente faleceu 18 meses depois da cirurgia. Este tipo de tumor raro e agressivo deve distinguir-se de outros tumores ováricos, nomeadamente dos tumores de células germinais e dos linfomas, porque o prognóstico e o manejo terapêutico são diferentes.
A origem deste tumor é desconhecida. Ainda não está definido o tratamento óptimo pós cirurgia (poliquimioterapia, radioterapia, ou terapêutica combinada), quer no contexto adjuvante, quer na doença recidivante.
