O traumatismo craniano é um dos problemas mais importantes de Saúde Pública. O traumatismo craniano ligeiro constitui cerca de 75% de todos os traumatismos cranianos. Destes doentes, cerca de 50% vão desenvolver um síndrome pós-concussão.
Apesar de frequentes, o traumatismo craniano ligeiro e o síndrome de pós-concussão têm recebido pouca atenção da parte da comunidade médica; no entanto, trata-se de situações bem definidas clinicamente e com anomalias anatomopatológicas, electro fisiológicas e imagiológicas próprias.
