Resumo

Constrictive pericarditis presents as a rare condition characterized by the loss of pericardial distensibility due to an inflammatory process. Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading cause of constrictive pericarditis in low-income countries and in immunocompromised patients, particularly those with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.

The authors report the case of a 24-year-old man from Brazil with a recent diagnosis of HIV infection, hospitalized for disseminated TB complicated by acute constrictive pericarditis. He underwent partial pericardiectomy, which proceeded without complications. At the time of discharge biventricular function remained preserved.
