Drug-induced toxic hepatitis
Keywords:
hepatitis, hepatic failure, clavulanic acidAbstract
Given the growing number of pharmacologically induced cases of toxic hepatitis in clinical practice, the authors present a clinica[ case of acute toxic hepatitis, secondary to the association of the association of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, in an HIV infected patient. Clinical laboratorial and histopathological findings are described along with a discussion of the diagnostic criteria for drug induced hepatic injury.
The etiopathogenic mechanisms, particularly immunological mediated hipersensiiivity, which is the proposed basis for linfocyte proliferation tests (to date of limited sensitivity) and the role of HIV infection, are subsequently considered.
