Abstract

Alcoholic Liver Disease (ALD) is a major public health problem
in Portugal. Alcohol is the most common drug of abuse in our
country. The author present a literature review about this subject,
approaching ALD epidemiology, pathogenesis of alcoholic liver
damage, diagnosis, and fi nally the ALD range, from hepatic
steatosis, to alcoholic hepatitis and fi nally liver cirrhosis. We also
refer to recent advances in treatment.
