Abstract

The authors describe the case of a 26 year old male with clinicai and radiological features suggesting a pulmonary suppurative disease (pulmonary abscess vs. necrotizing pneumonia). ln spite of the antibiotic treatment the features of a serious grave infection lasted unchanged. An Echinococcus pulmonary infection was suspected upon the findings of a pulmonary cavitation with movable residues (water lily sign), and confirmed after toracothomy. Hydatic lung infection is a rare finding that can be difficult to recognise, delaying the diagnostic and therapeutic approach.
