Dermatomyositis with normal muscle enzymes and pulmonary involvement
Keywords:
pulmonary interstitial disease, diffuse alveolar damage, Dermatomyositis sine myositisAbstract
Dermatomyositis (DM) is a rare autoimmune disease with inflammatory damage of muscles
and skin. The survival rate is greater than 90% with current therapy. DM sine myositis is a particular form of this disease that may be associated with pulmonary damage. Prognosis is related to pulmonary interstitial damage.
The authors report the case of a 42-year-old Indian woman with fever, cough, dyspneia and
skin damage of three weeks duration, admitted in the emergency room. Clinical examination
and laboratory analyses led to the diagnosis of DM with pulmonary damage. The clinical
presentation and review of the literature on the subject is discussed.
