Abstract

We report the diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic features of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in one patient in whom the disease was seen as a primary tumour of the liver. A 54 year-old adult white female presented with fatigue, lethargy, right upper quadrant pain, fever and night sweats. Diagnosis was made following a percutaneous needle biopsy of the liver. The patient was treated with combination chemotherapy. The patient remains in complete remission, 20 months after combination chemotherapy.

While involvement of the liver by non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is a relatively frequent event, primary liver lymphoma is an uncommon disease. But, althoug uncommon, the diferencial diagnosis of primary liver lymphoma should be entertained when patients present with solitary or multiple (our patient) liver defects, particularly when alpha-fetoprotein and carcinoembryonic antigen levels are normal.
