Abstract

Pseudotumor cerebri (PTC) is a syndrome of idiopathic or secondary intracranial hypertension. It is characterized by headaches,
visual alterations and papilledema. The idiopathic form generally
occurs in obese young women. Various drugs may produce PTC
in patients at any age. The authors describe a case report of a
16-years-old overweight girl, who developed PTC 3 weeks after
starting acne medication that included a tetracycline (minocycline).
After excluding other etiologies, withdrawal of tetracycline and
starting appropriate therapy, she became asymptomatic, with
regression of papilledema and normal visual field. The authors
present this case in order to draw attention to this rare but potentially serious complication of minocycline
