The author briefly describes the classification
of cardiovascular risk factors and their influence on modulation of westernised life styles. Food
patterns are also concisely reported, as well as
their role in the pandemic of the “doenças do
conglomerado”. To sum up, the main food and
nutritional characteristics of the mediterranean diet, a paradigm of a healthy food pattern,
and its role in the prevention of the “doenças do
conglomerado” are also stated.
