Abstract

The decreasing interest of young doctors in internai medicine specialisation is symptomatic of a crisis that afllicts this branch of medical practice. A few hypothetical reasons for such a decline of the main stem of medicine are briefly commented on and some questions about the future ofthe speciality are raised.
