Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a disease characterized
by production and accumulation of a mucinous fluid in the
peritoneal cavity, resulting in most cases from mucin producing tumors generally of the appendix and ovaries but
less frequently from the pancreas, colon and bladder. It is
a rare disease, more frequent in women, with an estimated
incidence of one case per million per year, with a mean age
of 50-70 years. Clinically it has a painless indolent course
and consequently diagnosis is made at an advanced stage.
Treatment consists in peritonectomy and visceral resections, called cytoreductive surgery (CRS), in combination
with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. In this
article we report the case of an elderly patient with pseudomyxoma peritonei with probable origin in the left ovar
