Abstract

lntracerebral haemorrhage accounts for 10-15% of hospital admissions for cerebral vascular accidents. lt is more than twice as common as subarachnoid haemorrhage. Given the very high morbidity and mortality rates, particularly during the lirst few hours, it is considered a medical emergency. The therapeutic approach has been the subject of much controversy. A Jack of reliable randomised studies has meant that therapeutic options have not been standardised, nor, probably, are the most appropriate. We review intracerebral haemorrhage therapy based on recent guidelines, highlighting the more controversial therapeutic aspects, the ethio phathogenesis, clinicai manifestations, diagnosis and prognostic factors.
