Abstract

The evolution and increasing use of imaging techniques augmented the frequency of the detection of mass lesions of the liver.

A study of screening and diagnosis of those lesions was made during one year, in alcoholics with and without liver disease, chronic hepati tis B infection, chronic hepatitis C infection, women taking oral contraceptives, patients with extra-hepatic solid tumors, incidental evidence of liver mass in ultrasonography.

The results confirm the rarity of benign tumors of the liver and the great frequency of hepatic metastases. Hepatocellular carcinoma exists among us, mainly in men with alcoholic or post hepatitis B cirrhosis.
