Abstract

Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction with an increasing
incidence rate that internists have to identify, thus securing a
proper approach. The authors present two clinical cases and
review key concepts on this topic: 1 - the relevance of an accurate investigation aiming to find out the allergens involved, 2
- understanding the physiopathology of anaphylaxis, enhancing the physician´s ability to diagnose the reactions presenting
atypical symptoms and signs, 3 - the general pharmacological basis to treat anaphylaxis on an acute-care setting. When
approaching these two clinical cases, the authors also review
three syndromes: oral allergy syndrome, Kounis syndrome
and latex-fruit syndrome.
