Abstract

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is prevalent worldwide but in Portugal it has a low prevalence (0.51%).
Facing a suggestive clinical condition it is necessary to search
for a triggering factor, often broad beans. The authors describe a
case report of a black male patient presenting fatigue, jaundice
and hemolytic anemia. As at first it was not possible to find
the triggering factor, the diagnosis was more challenging. The
interesting part in this case relates with the change to a healthy
eating pattern leading to the disease to manifest itself.
