Plasmocytoma of the clivus – a clinical case
Keywords:
Plasmacytoma, clivus, skull, tumour, neoplasmAbstract
Plasma cell tumours rarely involve the skull and
central nervous system without evidence of a plasma
cell dyscrasia at another site1,2. A 68-year-old man
presented with left-sided diplopia. Radiological studies showed a huge mass in the clivus. The
patient was treated with near total resection of the
lesion followed by radiotherapy. Histological analysis
showed a plasmacytoma for kappa light chains. A
small peak IgG-k was noted on
immunoelectrofixation, but no evidence of myeloma
was found on complete blood count, skeletal survey
and bone marrow examination. The few cases
described in literature of plasmacytoma of the clivus
suggested interest in the publication of this case.
